Cross Body Roll Cast

With the New Season just about upon us I have been looking back over pictures and videos of last Season and making plans for where and what I want to do this one.
There is one pool that always comes to mind because of the cast that is a bit more challenging but if executed well gives the opportunity to hook into some beautiful and good sized trout.
The pool has a drop off running along the right bank and a rock ledge and deeper water along the left side.
Just down stream from the tail out of the pool there is a large tree that has dropped into the water creating a wall of fly eating branches just where you want to put your back cast.
Fishing from the left edge of the stream is not really an option so it requires a cross body Roll Cast to get the flies into the Strike Zone to have any chance of getting the Eat.
The water is quite clear and has reasonable depth right up to the head of the pool.
The rig that we use mostly on the stream is a large Dry Fly with a Dropper from that down to a well weighted Nymph which generally is my Stick Caddis or Black Betty.  The dropper length I run is usually about 1 meter of 3X Chameleon.  The rod that I have been using for most of the season is a 7’7” 4wt Glass rod with either a Wulff Long Belly or The Wulff Triangular Taper Textured Plus 4wt Fly Line.
I find that these allow me to load the rod without having too much line out and deliver a large dry fly and heavy nymph with ease and the minimum of casts.
Feeling comfortable with a Roll Cast and being able to do a cross body cast is such a handy thing when fishing areas like this as it allows you to put out an accurate cast and manage your drift giving me the best chance of hooking and landing these fish.
Put in some practice and get yourself comfortable with your different casts any chance you get so when you get given a challenging cast you have the skills and faith to execute them.
